The Resource Land Manager I role is responsible for implementing advanced silviculture treatments that optimize productivity, efficiency and financial returns while ensuring the long-term sustainability of our resources. Through informed decision-making, the Resource Land Manager I shapes both immediate and future outcomes, aligning with our mission of sustainable forest management. Additionally, the Resource Land Manager I plays a key role in advancing our mission of enhancing forest productivity and sustainable forest management through close collaboration and relationship-building with contractors and other key stakeholders.

How will you contribute:

Silviculture Planning and Implementation:

  • Advance market-driven precision forestry principles through silvicultural investment and capital allocation.
  • Coordinate and implement all site-specific silviculture prescriptions, treatments, and activities.
  • Assist in developing planned activities that efficiently and effectively accomplish corporate goals and maximize financial returns.
Forest Operations
  • Plan and coordinate road maintenance, boundary line maintenance and other property related activities. Properly monitor activities to ensure quality and adherence to specifications.
  • Support Timber Marketing with harvest compliance as required.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting silviculture capital, overhead expenses, and forest management expenses
Operational Silviculture Management:
  • Drive operational excellence through process optimization, continuous improvement, and enhanced productivity, incorporating the latest decision tools.
  • Monitor on-ground activities and operations to ensure adherence to contract specifications, applicable regulations (local, state, and federal), SFI standards, and environmental regulations.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or productivity.
  • Implement measures to protect timber and land assets from insects and disease.
Financial Management
  • Support silviculture budget and forecast compilation, including capital allocation and investment strategies.
  • Monitor costs against budget and report on quarterly variances.
Data Management and Analysis:
  • Proficiently perform silviculture activity updates in the GIS database.
  • Use decision support tools to financially evaluate treatments.
Research and Continuous Improvement:
  • Support the establishment, management and measurement of operational field trials for continuous improvements.
Collaboration and Teamwork
  • Maintain and develop good relationships with adjacent landowners, industry research cooperatives and government agencies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the optimum deployment of genetic and seedling resources.
Safety and Sustainability:

  • Ensure that all strategies and actions fully align with and actively support Rayonier's sustainability commitments, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship goals.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in forestry or related field or equivalent experience in forestry operations.
  • 3-5 years' experience in land management with an emphasis in management of silviculture operations.
  • Strong understanding of silviculture and forest management practices, GIS and data analysis. Familiar with SFI standards, BMPs, and environmental regulations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational


Physical Requirements:

This role requires extensive physical activity, including hiking across varied terrain (uneven ground, slopes, wetlands, and dense vegetation), carrying equipment and supplies, and performing strenuous tasks like inventory measurements and sale setup. Work involves maintaining stability on uneven surfaces, navigating obstacles, and working in challenging positions, often outdoors in diverse weather conditions. Operating machinery, power tools, and motor vehicles are also required.
